Biomass Case Studies

Care home based in Yorkshire

Previous system installed at the home, was two oil fed boilers, supplying heat and hot water throughout. Annual heat load 520,000 kWh’s.

Yearly spend on oil £70,000.

Biomass system installed to property, which consisted of 3 x 60KW Windhager boilers, 2000ltr Windhager AccuWIN buffer vessel. Pellet store with a minimum capacity of 17 tonnes of fuel. All connected to existing circuit. External wood cabin, to house all boilers, buffer, pipe work and hopper.

Yearly spend on pellets £21,735.00 a saving of £48,265 per year.

Non domestic RHI payments

The RHI is a scheme to incentivise the installation of renewable heating systems.
A tariff will be paid on a quarterly basis based on meter readings supplied to the scheme manager – Of gem serve.

The RHI is an indexed linked scheme and the tariff will be received of 20years.

Proposal is for a 180kW boiler system.
The RHI tier 1 tariff at present is set at 8.8p/kWh.
Tire 2 payments are paid at a rate of 2.3p/kWh for heat generated above the tier 1 cap.

The calculation for the maximum annual tariff received is based on the following calculation-
Thermal load x 520000.

Tier 1 180kW x 1314 = 236520kWh
236520 kWh x 8.8p = £20,813.76 pa

Tier 2 283480 x 2.3p = £6,520.04 pa
Total RHI pa £27,333.80

Over a 20 period = £546,676
Pellet usage based on KWH produced = 520,000 / 4.8 = 115 tonnes of pellets.

Income over 20 years £546,676
Savings over 20 years £965,300
Total £1,511,976

This does not take in to account increase in RHI payments through  the RPI index linked tariff and fuel costs rising.

Domestic RHI payments

The RHI is a scheme to incentivise the installation of renewable heating systems.
A tariff will be paid on a quarterly basis; payments are based on results of Green Deal survey, which needs to be carried out on the property, to qualify for the payments and to establish the amount to be paid.

RHI payment year 1 £3742

Over a 7 period = £26,194

Income over 7 years £26,194

This does not take in to account increase in RHI payments through  the RPI index linked tariff and fuel costs rising.
